Hello, I'm
Emma.

Whilst studying Architecture at Edinburgh, I was increasingly eager to explore the entire investment and development process. I am passionate about design and the process of ‘Design Thinking’ to solve problems, but also how these ideas become tangible and the socioeconomic impact of property development as an industry.

A desire to understand the practical delivery of projects led me to study Construction Project Management whilst refurbishing flats on evenings and weekends in the middle of the recession. My inner Sarah Beeny and Kevin McCloud were ignited. On site, unsurprisingly the demo phase was smooth, but I quickly established I lacked the necessary plumbing skills. Fortunately, Sarah Beeny would have been proud of my budgeting and timing to market, along with a newfound respect for all trades!

I landed my first job at a start-up property search and development company called Banda. After 5 years working as a DM and director in the investment and development team, I moved from a start-up to one of the most established property businesses, the Grosvenor Estate. Over 9 years, I delivered a variety of residential, retail and strategic placemaking developments.

Wanting to combine all the best aspects of my previous experience led me to Stories. I have an entrepreneurial spirit but with a desire to think long-term, seeking to be a positive contributor in the lifecycle of a building and place. I am driven by a belief that the built environment has the capacity to positively transform people’s lives, but perhaps even more so by the fact that, too often, golden opportunities are missed to do so.

Becoming a mother of two girls, has continued to shape my approach to this exciting and challenging industry. Ultimately, I want to deliver projects that I am proud to show the next generation. Whether it is seeking to provide a secure and consistent home, effective work or education space or providing a local and affordable base, I hope to play a small part in improving outcomes.  It is exciting to be part of the Stories team.
